Humane AI Pins: Their Days Are Numbered

  • The Humane AI pins will stop functioning by the end of February 2025.
  • Consumer data will be deleted on February 28, 2025, so users should download their data now.
  • The AI pins were compared to a Star Trek communicator and had features like AI queries, calling, and messaging.
  • After acquisition by HP Inc., Humane announced the cessation of sales and cloud access for the AI pins.

Humane AI pins, those nifty little devices that CNET writer Scott Stein compared to “an AI-powered Star Trek communicator pinned to your shirt,” are heading towards obsolescence. The company, after being acquired by HP Inc., has announced that it will discontinue the sale of these wearable devices.

But that’s not the worst part. According to Humane’s statement, your AI Pin will continue to function normally until 12 pm PST on February 28, 2025. After this date, it will no longer connect to Humane’s servers, and .Center access will be fully retired. This means that features like calling, messaging, AI queries and responses, and cloud access will no longer be available.

Worse still, on February 28, all remaining consumer data will be deleted. So, if you own one of these pins, Humane strongly encourages you to sync your AI Pin over Wi-Fi and download any stored pictures, videos, and notes from .Center before the deadline. Failure to do so will result in the loss of your data.

CNET’s Scott Stein reviewed the device back in April 2024, noting that while the $699 pin seemed like science fiction, it was a chore to use. Despite its interesting ideas, the execution was lacking, and the pin was difficult to control. It also overheated quickly. However, Stein did appreciate the language translation feature and the camera quality, which he described as “fine but not great.”
