Despite a looming verdict on charges of breaching financial rules and question marks over whether this could be legendary manager Pep Guardiola’s final term in charge, Manchester City remain the team to beat. The defending champs are looking to claim an unprecedented fifth consecutive title.
Last year’s runners-up, Arsenal, will be hoping to go one step further than last term. But Mikel Arteta’s side have so far failed to strengthen their forward line during the summer transfer window, with a world-class striker still seen by many pundits as key for the Gunners’ hopes of winning their first EPL title since 2004. Unlike their north London rivals, Tottenham have made a major signing up front. Spurs have splashed out a massive £65 million on Bournemouth hitman Dominic Solanke. But it’s West Ham that looked to have made the biggest transformation during the summer break. The Hammers are now under the stewardship of former Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui, who’s made eight big signings, including Argentina World Cup winner Guido Rodríguez and Germany striker Niclas Füllkrug.
Elsewhere, it’s set to be a season of great change on Merseyside, with new Liverpool manager Arne Slot tasked with the unenviable job of replacing the hugely popular Jürgen Klopp. Meanwhile the Reds’ near neighbors Everton will be playing their final season at the 132-year-old Goodison Park before next year’s move to a new £760 million stadium. This year’s newcomers to the league are Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton, with all three clubs hoping to buck the growing trend of promoted clubs heading straight back down to the Championship.
